Carfax does not operate a selective admissions policy. Pupils of all levels and ages are welcome to benefit from the very personal tuition and pastoral care. The college is equally suited to high-flyers and to those who have struggled academically. The levels of individual attention can also be of particular help to pupils with special educational needs.
There is no formal age restriction here. Most pupils taking GCSE courses are 14 to 17 years old, and most pupils taking A level courses are 16 to 19 years old, but there are courses which are suitable for both younger and older pupils. Prep-school age children are regularly prepared for senior schools' entrance tests and Common Entrance examinations, whilst under- and post-graduates are offered additional instruction to help with their course requirements.
Group courses begin in September and January. Pupils on individual courses are encouraged to follow the normal pattern of the school year, but there is a great deal of flexibility in this and in principle they can join at any time during the year. Short-term and part-time courses are also offered all year round, including weekends and holidays.
