Lunar New Year 2021 - the first day of the Year of the Ox

Today, February 2nd, 2021, is the first day of the Chinese Lunar calendar – and the first day of the Year of the Ox.

At Carfax we have a diverse and international student body, and we feel it is important to celebrate a variety of different cultures and help students understand different religious and cultural traditions.

We have celebrated this day by decorating the college with posters explaining about traditional Chinese festivals and we have offered our students a variety of activities in the college: crosswords, colouring activities, and even a ‘build you own dragon’ set. This year has brought unique challenges to all our students: adapting to working from home, lockdown 3.0, and the changes to exam assessments to name a few. Perhaps it is a good thing that this is the year of the Ox: in Chinese tradition the Ox is associated with hard work and serenity.

We have no doubt that the new year will bless and inspire the students to continue their hard work and allow for a time of serenity after they have finished their exams this year!
