Independent Schools Inspectorate report

on Carfax College, May 2015

A level retake programmes are available for all subjects and options with all the exam boards – AQA, Edexcel/Pearson, OCR, WJEC/Eduqas and CIE.

Courses typically start in September or January, but pupils can join at any time throughout the year, as their needs and personal circumstances dictate.

Courses are fully personalized to meet each pupil’s individual requirements, and are based on the highly effective Oxbridge style of one-to-one tutorial.

Pupils can study full-time or part-time, and can do anything from a single module resit in a “legacy” subject to several full subject re-takes.

The “reformed” or “new-style” A levels which are currently in the process of being introduced are linear qualifications. This makes resits more challenging, as candidates must resit every exam in a single session (e.g. if a student underperformed in only one of the three English Literature papers, they must nevertheless resit all three). The only exception is that retake candidates can keep their coursework marks if they want to.

For students who find that their interests and ambitions have changed since they started the sixth form, it is possible to combine retakes with picking up one or two new subjects from scratch.

We are keen for retake students to undertake volunteering and work experience, and are happy to be flexible in scheduling courses around such commitments.
